Who is Jesus?

More than a name. More than a story. The question that changes everything.

The Question That Shapes Your Life

Ask 10 people who Jesus is, and you’ll likely get 10 different answers.

Some say He was a great teacher. Others call Him a prophet. For many, He’s the Savior of the world. And for others still, He’s a mystery.

At Agape, we believe the best way to answer the question “Who is Jesus?” is to look at two things: the historical record and the story Scripture tells. Together, they paint a picture not just of a man—but of God made flesh, full of grace and truth.

Was Jesus a Real Person?

Yes. Jesus of Nazareth walked the earth.

History Confirms It

Writers like Tacitus (a Roman historian) and Josephus (a Jewish historian) document Jesus’ life, teachings, and death. Even outside the Bible, there’s agreement: Jesus was real, influential, and crucified.

Scholars Agree on Core Facts

  • Jesus lived in first-century Israel.
  • He was a respected teacher and miracle worker.
  • He was executed by the Romans under Pontius Pilate.

But history only scratches the surface. Scripture reveals who He really is.

What the Bible Says About Jesus

He Is the Son of God

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son...” — John 3:16
Jesus isn’t just a man—He’s God’s Son, sent to rescue us from sin and bring us back into relationship with the Father.

He Is the Word Made Flesh

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” — John 1:14
Jesus is God in human form—present at creation, now walking with us in love and humility.

He Is the Savior

“You are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
— Matthew 1:21
His name means “salvation.” His mission? To seek and save the lost. That includes every one of us.

He Is Without Sin

“Tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.” — Hebrews 4:15
Jesus lived the only perfect, sinless life—which made Him the only one who could pay for our sins.

Did Jesus Ever Sin?

No. He didn’t.

Though fully human, Jesus lived a life without sin.

He Faced Temptation

“Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” — Matthew 4:1
But He stood firm. Every time.

His Perfection Made a Way

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us...” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
Because Jesus was sinless, He became the perfect sacrifice—taking on our sin so we could receive His righteousness.

Why Did Jesus Die?

The cross wasn’t an accident. It was the plan all along.

Sin Separates Us From God

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
“The wages of sin is death...” — Romans 6:23
But God didn’t leave us there.

Jesus Took Our Place

“He was pierced for our transgressions... by His wounds we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
His death was a demonstration of God’s love and a payment for our sin

Death Wasn’t the End

“If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile...” — 1 Corinthians 15:17
Jesus rose again—defeating death and offering eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.

Bible Verses That Reveal Who Jesus Is

  • John 14:6 — “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
  • Colossians 1:15–17 — “In Him all things hold together...”
  • Revelation 1:8 — “I am the Alpha and the Omega...”

These aren’t just titles. They’re invitations to know the One who holds all things—including you.

How Should We Respond?

Recognize Your Need for Him

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9

Repent and Believe

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” — Acts 3:19

Begin a Relationship

Jesus doesn’t just want your belief—He wants your heart, your trust, your life.

Final Thoughts: Who Is Jesus to You?

Jesus is the Son of God, the sinless Savior, the Risen King.
He’s the One who came close, died in your place, and invites you into abundant life.
You might still have questions. That’s okay. Keep asking. Keep seeking.
But know this—Jesus sees you. He loves you. And He’s waiting with open arms.
His name means “salvation.” His mission? To seek and save the lost. That includes every one of us.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son...” — John 3:16
